Ormond Beach, Florida to Jacksonville, Florida to Richmond Hill, Georgia

Where have I been?! We left Ormond Beach, the southernmost point of our journey. From here we are headed north ever closer to our destination of Boston. The sun was just coming up

when Bill left and my lense kept fogging up in the humidity.
So I spent the day mainly driving in the heat to catch Bill who is cycling in the heat! When I caught up to him, we found a truck stop where we could gas up and we both had a serious craving for fried chicken. We parked in with the trucks
and went inside, looked at the fried chicken and looked at Subway and decided to have a healthier sub instead. The lady was down to her last five meatballs so I got 5 meatballs in my 6 inch meatball sandwich! Bliss! Then stopped at the campground to escape the heat. Tuesday was a little more interesting. To start with, it was our 41st wedding anniversary! With all the birthdays and anniversaries in August, we figured at the beginning of the trip that we would celebrate when we get back home. So with an early start, Bill was off! On the Florida, Georgia line

there was a fruit inspection station that I stopped at,
but the officer waved me through. I found out later that Bill stopped and talked to him and took a picture of the building and the car out front.
He thanked him for the job he does and pedaled on. He rode into Camden County, Georgia and met 2 fire fighters.
ST-11 FF/EMT Martin on the left and FF Belton on the right. Another couple of candidates for a fireman calendar I think....;) Bill thanked them and gave them a patch and New Testaments. Thank-You guys for the job you do! When I caught up to Bill, He had broken a spoke on his back wheel which meant another trip to have repairs done. We drove to Richmond Hill where the nearest bike shop was and I saw this along the way.
The truck was hauling styrofoam...this must be what they unload it with! LOL! We stopped in and made an appointment at the bike shop for the next day and since Bill had over 50 miles in, we stopped for the night at Savannah South KOA. Not too many campgrounds have swans!
Of course they said there might be an alligator or 2 in there also, so I didn't get too close to the shore. The next day, Bill drove to Game Changers Bike and Multisport to have 2 new spokes put in and to have the tension set on all the spokes on both wheels. Because of the broken spoke, it weakened the opposite one so we had both replaced. Turned out the spokes were all different from each other and should be about the same. Chris was the gentleman that did the work and was very helpful and knowledgeable.
The tension hadn't been checked in 1000 miles of training and close to 3000 miles of cycling, so it was good that we had that done. If the tension is not adjusted correctly, more spokes will break and cause some damage to the bike. So we are spending a second night at the Savannah South KOA and get to watch the swans for one more evening.
Thanks for reading.
