Helena, Montana to White Sulphur Springs, Montana

Bill left early today (7:30) to ride into Helena, Montana to meet with police and firefighters. I did my usual morning routine, tucked in the electrical cord outside and hopped into the cab just as Bill called. We met on Highway 12 about 10 miles out of town and he shared stories of his meetings with everyone. “The first meeting was with the state trooper we had met at the top of MacDonald Pass. He gave me a patch and I gave him a coin which he was delighted with. He wore his hat for the picture today.
(Thank-you again Trooper Zufelt!) After that, I went over to the police Station all the way through town and saw a guy with a teal blue shirt who ended up taking the pictures. He went in and got the police chief, Lieutenant Bailey and Deputy Sheriff Wright to come out and meet me and get a picture. We went outside and stood by one of the police vehicles for the shot.
I received patches from both the Sheriff’s Department
and the Helena Police Department.
Thank-You for what you do! They told me how to get to the Fire Station where I met the Fire Chief and a number of his firefighters. We exchanged patches and coins
and got a great pose in front of the fire truck.
Thank-you guys! After spending some time talking, I headed out of town on Highway 12.” It wasn’t long before he pedaled up to where I was waiting with some banana muffins and hot cocoa. A quick snack and was on his way once more. It’s overcast and cool so far today, 54 degrees. I’ll hop out of the truck and take a video to post on Facebook. Whew! It’s chilly out there, busy on the road too. Thank-you all for praying for us, there’s a lot of trucks on this road today. I’m watching the cows in the field at the base of a mountain. As we all rush past, they graze quietly paying us little mind. There’s still a little snow on the high peaks and I actually saw a flock of seagulls, way out here. The wind is starting to pick up and Bill has been fighting headwinds all day so far. I went down the road about 11 miles and found an old bar for sale with a large parking lot and pulled in to cook us up some hot dogs for lunch. It wasn’t too bad once you got out of the wind and we enjoyed lunch together. We went our separate ways, both headed for Townsend, Montana. Nice town, not run down like so many we’ve passed through. Turned on to 89 and after a few miles, caught up to Bill and we called it a day. About 56 miles today in headwinds so he was pretty pooped. We found our way to Conestoga Campground in White Sulphur Springs where we had a little supper and went over to the office for the Wednesday ice cream social. Met lots of people from all over the country and the owner of the campground told us all about the area. Back to the little beach house on wheels to finish up the day. The clouds rolled in
and now there's rain tapping on the roof. Thank-you for reading.
