Wilbur to Airway Heights and Spokane, WA June 8th

Bill set out at 8 AM today after taking care of the tanks outside. I started downloading a video to Facebook and while it loaded, got showered and dressed.  I packed up the loose stuff, unplugged the power cord and put that away and I was out by 9:15. Went past the Billy Burgers place and smiled. More rolling fields of wheat and I’m now in the bustling little town of Davenport, the 2nd largest wheat producer in the world! When Bill caught up to me, we checked the Garmin for the nearest police department and found it right close by. We met Sheriff Magers, the “picture taker” (you know who you are…;) ), and a gentleman that retired after 32 years of service.
They also have very cool cars...
The Sheriff gave Bill a patch and I took a couple of pictures.
Then it was back on the road for another 15 miles. I’m parked on the side of the road alongside just one of the huge wheat fields here getting rocked by passing trucks. It’s only about 12 more miles to Airway Heights, hopefully we will arrive by early afternoon. I found the fire station okay but had to go around the block to find a good place to park. I was just here for a couple of minutes when Bill called to say he got his first flat since we started.
He just called back! He can’t find the hole in the tube, but it’s leaking like crazy so I am going back to pick him up. Back at the fire station….they made lunch for us!
So cool to eat in a firehouse. I felt like I was on an episode of Chicago Fire! LOL! Thank-you all so much! We got great pictures of Nate, Don, Carl and Ian…they even pulled the fire truck out for us. Chief Metzger, you would have been proud of your people.
We exchanged coins and they gave us a patch.
We found out that ¾ of the fire fighters across the United States are volunteers. We thanked them for what they do and since all the guys agreed that Carl was the cute one, got a picture with him….this one’s for you ladies! LOL!
Also an added shout out to Carl as a former Marine and Ian with the Army, thank-you for your service! We also met an Airway Heights police officer, traded patches and took pictures.

Thank-you sir for what you do! We were directed over to FireDistrict 10 and met Deputy Chief Sandoval and some of his crew. We traded patches and they gave us a coin. Thank-you all so much for how you look after your community.

They insisted that their spaghetti was better than Airway Heights, but I said that remained to be seen. LOL! I see a spaghetti cook-off in their future! Orlando gave us directions to a campground and we headed there as there looked like a big storm was headed our way. We got set up and Bill was able to fix the flat tire just before the thunder and rain came pouring down.
